Importance of individual/private lessons

Private lessons are essential for intermediate and advanced fencers to improve their skills, giving the coach the opportunity to focus on the student’s specific strengths and weaknesses. For competitive fencers, the private lesson is an essential component of their training regimen. Privates are also great for beginners who can’t make the regularly scheduled group classes or simply want to excel more rapidly and to develop basic techniques with more control and refinement.

Q: What is the best way to start fencing?
A: You can take private lessons.

Q: Should my child stop taking private lessons if he/she reached a certain level?
A: No, because private lessons are part of our education. Even Olympic champions still take private lessons. Group lessons and bouting can’t replace a private lesson.

Individual lessons can be scheduled inside or outside of open training times, depending on coach availability. Please see your coach or contact the club office to arrange a lesson.

  • If you book an individual lesson you are reserving the coaches’ time. We ask that you notify your coach 24 hours in advance if you are unable to attend your scheduled time. If notification is not given then you will be charged for the time booked.

  • Please be on time for your lesson. Allow yourself a few minutes prior to warm up. Your lesson will run as scheduled even if you are late. If your lesson is scheduled to run from 7:00pm to 7:15pm and you arrive at 7:10pm, that means you will you will have a 5 minute lesson, but will be charged for the full 15 minutes lesson.
